Learning and growing

Education is an important building block of our society. To get a grip on the rapid changes that are now taking place in society, it is important that creativity, innovation and critical thinking are stimulated and further developed in education. In addition to training young students, adult education is also made possible for anyone who wishes. The starting point of the educational system in Frij Fryslân is trust in children, their teachers and parents. We offer a lot of room for innovative forms of education.

Education in Frij Fryslân

Education is an important building block of our society. If all goes well, it will prepare the youth for the role they will take on in our society. To get a grip on the rapid changes that are now taking place as a society, it is important that creativity, innovation and critical thinking are stimulated and further developed in education. In addition to training young students, adult education is also made possible for anyone who wishes.

A changing society

“School kills creativity” says Sir Ken Robinson, researcher and speaker in the most watched TEDtalk of all time. He argues in favor of giving creativity as much space as literacy in education. He also indicates that these skills are a basic requirement for making the necessary transition to a sustainable and humane society.

The realization that our changing society requires the development of different competencies than before has dawned on many people. In recent decades, many pioneers have started working with new forms of education. For example, there are Montessori, Jenaplan, Rudolf Steiner schools and various other new forms of education. A common thread in these is respect for the children and their creativity and a focus on their interests and questions.

Trust, control and respect

In  Frij Fryslân we rely on trust in the children and their teachers and parents. We offer a lot of scope for innovative forms of education. The control over the learning process lies with the teachers, children and parents and not with prescribed methods and processes. These principles ensure even more diversity and choice in the educational offer.

The system of burdensome administrative rules and bureaucracy will also largely be dismantled and replaced by a few basic conditions. All forms of education receive equal funding from Frij Fryslân. Additional funding can come from other sources, provided the parents agree.
